The events of the animated series revolve around the life of a 12-year-old kitten named Gumball Watterson and his adopted brother 10-year-old goldfish Darwin Watterson, who attended high school in the American city of Elmore. Together with his adopted brother, he often finds himself in various difficult situations, from which they have to get out with the help of their family, classmates and residents of Elmore. But Gumball doesn't learn from its mistakes.
The series is based on characters previously created by its author — Benjamin Bocklet — for various commercials. Bocklet combined everything into the idea of a show about the "school and family life of teenagers" and offered it to Cartoon Network. The channel was interested in such programs, and a representative of Turner Broadcasting, Daniel Lennard, agreed to produce the series, which was the first created in the Cartoon Network Development Studio Europe. Subsequently, Studio SOI and Great Marlborough Productions Limited took part in its production.
One of the main features of the show is the lack of unity of style — all the characters are drawn and animated in different ways (hand-drawn, puppet, theater-puppet, computer, flash animation). The cartoon looks like a normal children's cartoon, but it is not. Behind the mask of a harmless TV series, there is a good comedy with very sharp jokes that a child sometimes can hardly understand.
The cartoon received pretty good reviews for its humor, animation, and music. The launch of the show on May 3, 2011 gained 2.120 million views, on May 9, 2011 it gained 1.937 million views. The start of the show of season 2 gave less viewers — 1.805 million.
