Napoleon Bonaparte was a French military general who crowned himself the first emperor of France.
He was born in the year 1769 on the island of Corsica, Italy.
In 1789, he supported the French Revolution.
In 1792, he becomes a captain of artillery after finishing the leading military school in Paris. He crushes a royalist rebellion in Paris and soon becomes head of the French army, wins victories in Italy, Belgium, and Austria.
In 1804, Napoleon crowns himself Emperor of France.
In 1805, he could not defeat Britain at sea, and lost an important sea battle near Cape Trafalgar (the most south-westerly point of Spain).
Later in the year 1812, he led a great army into Russia.
But in 1815 Napoleon met his final defeat at the battle of Waterloo beaten by the British and the Prussians.
In 1821, Napoleon Bonaparte died a prisoner on the lonely Atlantic island of St. Helena, Britain.
