Conti's Italian academy is not an ordinary school. It is the oldest art school in Great Britain. This is a private school, which means that students have to pay to go there. All students must wear uniforms and attend the same lessons as other students. Students must work very hard to pass GCSE exams. In addition to the usual lessons, students can choose from a wide range of classes in the performing arts. It can be anything from traditional ballet to modern dance, or learn to perform on stage or on television. Regardless of the kind of show business students want to work with, they are encouraged to develop as many performing skills as possible. Many students perform professionally while still in school, and some start a successful career before graduating from school.
I really like holidays. These days we are waiting for rest, a festive table and entertainment. But I especially like the national holidays. I was very interested in learning how these days were celebrated by our ancestors. Therefore, I was even delighted when I was instructed to prepare a report on the history of the upcoming Maslenitsa holiday. So what is Pancake Day? Maslenitsa (Maslenaya week, Cheese week) is the week preceding the Great Post and divides the winter and spring in the calendar. This holiday was widely celebrated by all Slavic peoples. The main meal for Maslenitsa was pancakes - an ancient symbol of the sun, as hot and ruddy. The first pancake was usually intended for the deceased: they put it on a sheriff or an auditory window (for parents' souls), and sometimes they were given to the poor, also to the mention of the soul. By the holiday Maslenitsa, huge cathedral mountains were being built (in Moscow even under the walls of the Kremlin), and there they went out with pancakes to greet Maslenitsa, have fun and skate, arranged masquerade games with ryazhen 'in animals, imitation of weddings.
Я очень люблю праздники. В эти дни нас ожидает отдых, праздничный стол и развлечения. Но особенно мне нравятся народные праздники. Мне было очень интересно узнать о том, как эти дни отмечали наши предки. Поэтому я даже обрадовалась, когда мне поручили подготовить на классный час доклад об истории приближающегося праздника Масленицы. Так что же такое Масленица? Масленица (Масленая неделя, Сырная неделя) — это неделя, предшествующая Великому посту и разделяющая в календаре зиму и весну. Этот праздник широко отмечался всеми славянскими народами. Основной едой на Масленицу были блины — древний символ солнца, такие же горячие и румяные. Первый блин обычно предназначался умершим: его клали на божницу или слуховое окошко (для родительских душ), а иногда отдавали нищим, также на помин души. К празднику Масленицы строились огромные катальные горы (в Москве даже под стенами Кремля), и туда выходили с блинами встречать Масленицу, веселиться и кататься, устраивали маскарадные игры с ряженьем в животных, имитацией свадьбы.
