The United Kingdom is situated on the British Isles and consists of four countries: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Their capitals are London, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast respectively. The overall population is over 67 million.
The UK is a monarchy, however the political power belongs to the Parliament. At present Queen Elisabeth II is the official Head of the country, and William, her grandson, is her heir. He lives in in London with his wife Kate and their three children. Although William has a lot of royal duties and is famous all around the world, he doesn’t want to be special or different.
One of the most famous buildings in England is Buckingham Palace. When the Queen is staying there, the British Union flag can be seen on the roof of the palace. In August and September tourists are allowed to visit some of the rooms and take photos.
I’d like to visit London because I think it would be a fantastic experience. The city is full of museums and art galleries, theatres and clubs. I’d love to see the Big Ben, the London Eye, the Buckingham Palace, the Tower Bridge and the London Zoo.
The London Eye is of the most popular tourist attractions in London. Its original name was “the Millennium wheel”, because it was opened in 2000. The wheel is 135 meters high; there are 32 capsules, and each one can fit 25 people. It takes half an hour to complete one ride. The London eye can be seen from different parts of the city, and it’s illuminated at nighttime.
