Easter in Ukraine is celebrated every first week after the spring equinox and the full month. Over the past centuries, this holiday has merged with folk traditions and family customs that have accompanied a person throughout his life.
The family table for Easter in Ukraine is prepared with special solemnity and is certainly decorated with flowers. The main place on the festive table is occupied by Easter and krashanki, laid on the greens. In addition, every Ukrainian hostess prepares traditional and family-favorite festive dishes.
After the revolution, despite militant atheism, the tradition of celebrating Easter was passed down in Ukraine from generation to generation.
When the production of gift art Easter eggs was banned, Easter continued to be celebrated with "krashenki" (eggs decorated in one or more colors), "pysanki" (painted with ornaments), the tradition of making which was strong in the western regions of Ukraine and "skrobanki". This is a special technique for decorating eggs, when the pattern is scratched out with one or another sharp tool. The living art of the wooden Easter egg is concentrated in the remote villages of the Zavolzhsky region-Polkhovsky Maidan and Krutets.
