Being a student is a tough experience especially in the exam period. However, the modern tendency of student's learning success evaluation has brought various controversies and arguments in society. Some people are happy about taking tests; the others claim that it is not enough to measure the real level of knowledge and skills in students.
I would say that I belong to the second category, and I would explain why. From my point of view, you cannot measure the real depth of knowledge of a student because all they need to know is an approximate date, some relevant information and a little bit of logic. If you know nothing, but you can guess, you may be lucky to pass a test successfully.
When a person writes an essay, they must know exact information and be able to explain their position logically and support with relevant facts. Also, a student must think critically showing his writing skills, which must be stylistically and grammatically correct.
All in all, tests cannot provide an adequate evaluation of the student’s success. Writing an essay is a more challenging experience for a student but it can show the educational level of a person in full.
