I. Read the text and choose the best answer to answer the questions (1-6).
Agatha Christie was probably the most successful writer in history. She wrote
78 crime novels, 6 other novels, 150 short stories, 4 non-fiction books and 19
plays. That represents two billion books sold: more than William Shakespeare!
Christie became a writer by accident. She was bored when her husband was
away in the First World War. Agatha was working in a hospital dispensary (which
is where she learned all the information about poisons that she used in her books).
She decided to write a novel to pass the time. She chose a detective novel because
she loved reading them. Her first novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, was an
instant success. Each book had a new ingenious plot. Readers loved the books,
particularly because Christie always gave the readers all the information they
needed to find the solution.
Christie loved travelling. When she became rich she could go all over the
world. She used the travels in her writing.
Agatha Christie died in 1976, but her stories are still immensely popular. Many

n Cowny, which is one of the prettiest and 1most popular tourist towns in North Wales, you can find 2..the.. smallest house in Great Britain. The house is only about two metres wide. In fact, it's only 3... as ..big 4...as a small bus. There's hardly any furniture and it wouldn't be comfortable 5.enough.. for most people to live in. Surprisingly, its last owner, Robert Jones, was 1.9 metres tall! He couldn't stand up in the rooms because he was 6..too... tall, and the ceilings weren't hight 7..enough. Conwy is also famous for its thirteenth-century castle, which is older 8.. than the town itself. There are two bridges near the castle - a suspension bridge, built in 1826, and a 9 new modern railway bridge.

Thirty years ago I was still unmarried and was living with my mother. One morning in April while I was reading a newspaper I came across some information about a remarkable find of Roman silver.
It had been discovered three years before by a farmer from Mildenhall, in Siffolk, but the discovery for some reason had been kept secret until then.
The newspaper article said the treasure has been sent to the British Museum.
The name of the farmer was given as Gordon Butcher.
The moment I read the story I sprang up from my chair and rushed out to my car.
