Television in Our life
Television now plays an important role in our life. It is difficult to say if it is good or bad for us. It is clear, that television has advantages and disadvantages.
But are there more advantages than disadvantages? In the first place, television is an entertainment. But it is not only a convenient entertainment. For a family of three, four or five, for example, it is more convenient and less expensive to sit comfortably at home than to go out to find entertainment in other places. They don't have to pay for expensive seats at the theatre or cinema. They turn on the TV-set and can watch interesting films, concerts, football matches.
But some people think that it's bad to watch TV. Those who watch TV need do nothing. We are passive when we watch TV. Television shows us many interesting programmes. But again there is a disadvantage here: we watch TV every evening, and it begins to dominate our lives.
My friend told me that when his TV-set broke down, he and his family found that they had more time to do things and to talk to each other. There are other arguments for and against television.
Very often the programmes are bad. Sometimes they show too much violence in films and news programmes. There is also too much pop music and ads. Ads on the whole are convenient for grown-ups. But is it good for children to watch all those ads where they show all kinds of underwear and what not?
Kiev is the capital of our country. It is the largest city in the Ukraine. More than three million people live there. Kiev was founded more than 1500 years ago. It is the political, economic, industrial and cultural centre of our country. There are many factories in Kiev. They make different products. In Kiev there are many museums, monuments, theatres, cinemas, libraries and palaces. Thousands of students study at Kiev-Mohila academy, at Kiev University, many institutes and colleges. Kiev is a large transport centre. Kiev metro is very beautiful. Kiev is situated on the banks of the river Dnieper. The city is very green. It is one of the most beautiful cities of Ukraine. Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada, president and government are located in Kiev. Ambassadors of many countries live in the capital of Ukraine too. We are proud that our capital is one of the best and oldest cities in the world. Khreschatyk is the main street in Kiev. It is not very long, but it is wide and straight. You can see many cars and trolley buses on Khreschatyk. There are many big green trees in it. A lot of people go to Khreschatyk every day. Some of them go shopping because there are many good shops and big market there. Other people go to the cinema, look at the fountains or sit on the benches. In the evening many people walk in Khreschatyk. There you can see many bright lights. People like the main street of Kiev because it is nice and green.
Київ - столиця нашої країни. Це найбільше місто в Україні. Тут проживає більше трьох мільйонів людей. Київ був заснований більше 1500 років тому. Це політичний, економічний, промисловий і культурний центр нашої країни. У Києві багато заводів. Вони роблять різні продукти. У Києві багато музеїв, пам'ятників, театрів, кінотеатрів, бібліотек і палаців. У Києво-Могилянській академії, Київському університеті, багатьох інститутах і коледжах навчаються тисячі студентів. Київ - великий транспортний центр. Київський метрополітен дуже гарний. Київ розташований на березі Дніпра. Місто дуже зелене. Це один з найкрасивіших міст України. Верховна Рада України, президент і уряд розташовані в Києві. Посли багатьох країн також проживають у столиці України. Ми пишаємося тим, що наша столиця є одним з кращих і найстаріших міст світу. Хрещатик - головна вулиця Києва. Вона не дуже довга, але вона широка і пряма. На Хрещатику можна побачити багато автомобілів і тролейбусів. У ньому багато великих зелених дерев. Багато людей їдуть до Хрещатика щодня. Деякі з них ходять по магазинах, тому що там є багато хороших магазинів і великий ринок. Інші відвідують кінотеатр, дивляться на фонтани або сидять на лавках. Увечері багато людей гуляють по Хрещатику. Там можна побачити багато яскравих вогнів. Людям подобається головна вулиця Києва, тому що вона гарна і зелена.
