Mother’s Day is a holiday honoring motherhood that is observed in different forms throughout the world. People celebrate Mother’s Day on the 14th of October in Belarus. It was officially established by the Belarusian government and it was celebrated for the first time in 1996. Although Mother’s Day is a working day, it is widely celebrated throughout the country. The day is marked with official ceremonies aimed at recognizing the significant role mothers play in Belarussian society. Traditionally people congratulate their mums. They give small presents and invite their mums at the café. Children make beautiful cards, prepare concerts for them and cook their favourite food. Sometimes they decorate their houses with balloons and spend time together.
