Red Square is 695 metres long and 130 metres wide. It is one of the largest and most beautiful squares in Moscow. People used to call it Torg, Pozhar, or Troitskaya Square. But in the 17th century the square got its modern name of Krasnaya, which means 'beautiful'. Tourists from Russia and from abroad come to Red Square to see famous buildings and monuments: St Basil's Cathedral, the History Museum, and Spasskaya Tower with the large Kremlin Clock. New Year's Eve and the Victory Day celebrations take place in Red Square.
