How the Japanese Celebrate New Year's Day
Just like in many other countries, the 1st of January is a national holiday in Japan.
Unlike many countries the Japanese start New Year preparations with bounenkai (forget-the-year-parties) gatherings during December. These parties are held among co-workers or friends. Besides, in December people send oseibo (end-of-year gifts) and New Year's postcards called nengajo.
It is very important for the Japanese to welcome a new year with a clean state, so everybody is involved in cleaning homes, work places and schools.
At the end of December people start to decorate their houses.
It is traditional for the Japanese to eat rice cakes (mochi) during New Year's holidays. There are also other special dishes. Each dish has a particular meaning. For example, they eat prawns for long life.
During New Year's celebrations in Japan children are given money in small envelopes. It is also traditional for the Japanese to visit a temple at this time of the year.

Как и во многих других странах, 1 января является национальным праздником в Японии.
В отличие от многих стран, японцы начинают новогодние приготовления вечеринками "боненкай" (проводятся с целью забыть все неприятности года) в декабре. Эти вечеринки устраиваются среди коллег или друзей. Кроме того, в декабре люди отправляют "осейбо" (подарки в конце года) и новогодние открытки "нэнгадзё".
Для японцев очень важно встретить новый год в чистоте, поэтому все участвуют в уборке дома, на работе и в школе.
В конце декабря люди начинают украшать свои дома.
Традиционно во время новогодних праздников японцы едят рисовые кексы ("моти"). Есть и другие специальные блюда. Каждое блюдо имеет особое значение. Например, они едят креветки для долгой жизни.
Во время новогодних праздников в Японии детям дарят деньги в маленьких конвертах. Также традиционно в это время года японцы посещают храм.
I love walking my dog in the early morning. I getting up at six o'clock every day and taking the dog for a walk. I'm very enthusiastic! Even when it raining i am excited. The dog, however, hates going out in the rain.
