From the first lines of this sonnet, we can see that the voice is probably talking about a chill middle-aged guy. It is really important to notice that he is “At the hall door”, as it means that this man is making important decisions that will massively influence his life. When we will see the third line, we will notice that the man is ‘telling some new joke’ to a friend, which shows us that he is quite confident in himself, as telling a new joke is always hard as you don’t know is it funny or not. The secret night is a personification, he has the dance and the peace of the secret night sky. The voice is giving us 2 opposites in this paragraph, lighting a cigarette, leaning his back, telling a joke to a friend, and looking out into the secret night.
If we will have a look on the 2 paragraph we will see that the man is looking on the dance floor where ‘the girls drifting like flowers’, which is a really nice simile.‘Before the music tears slowly in his mind an old wound open.’ that is an interesting point in the sonnet, as we can see that this man has unclosed Gestalt connected to the women.
3 paragraph of this sonnet is our first glimpse into his profound connection to nature. We can see that he wasn't made for love making, he is very good at working by his hands,he is not attractive . Also the phrase ‘the earth wave breaking’ is really interesting, as if we have a look at how does the plough works we will see that it makes the waves on the ground. The line “crops slow-growing as his mind.” shows us that he is a bit slow-minded, but not stupid.
The 4th paragraph of this sonnet is exceptional , it is not similar to the previous ones. Here the voice is talking about
