The Great Pyramid is surrounded by several smaller pyramids. They served as tombs for pharaohs and their close relatives. The pyramid complex at Giza is guarded by the Sphinx carved from limestone. It has the head of a man and the body of a lion. The bottom part of the monument is buried under the sands.
