SHOPPING IN LONDON
1 Oxford Street is the best area - there are over 300
shops there. You can find more exclusive designer
stores in Regent Street and Bond Street. Knightsbridge
and Sloane Square are also good areas, and there are
hundreds of little shops in Covent Garden market
2 The most famous, of
course, is Harrods with
its incredible food hall,
but it is not the only
one. Selfridges, in
Oxford Street, sells a
wide range of
designer labels, and
Liberty mixes the
traditional with the
modern
3 All shops open between 9.00 and 10.00 am and they
close at 6.00 p.m. It's unusual for shops to dose for
lunch, and at least one night a week they stay open
late, until 8.00 p.m. In Oxford Street, late night opening
is on Thursdays.
4 You can't leave London without going to one of its
many street markets. The best ones are in Covent
Garden, Portobello Road, Camden, and Petticoat Lane.
You don't have to buy anything here, because it's fun
just to look at the variety of things for sale.
