But the lawyer insisted that he saw the man giving the money to the clerk, but he did not see the clerk returning the money. The lawyer promised to call the police if the clerk forgot about the bill. The clerk realized that he could do nothing but return the money. "I don't know how to thank you for getting my money back," said the man happily. "Oh, don't thank me," answered the lawyer.
