Pelmeni is the most mysterious dish in the world, with ancient history and recipe. Every nation fights for the right to say that pelmeni is their national dish. Pelmeni have different names: zyao-zi in China, vontons and shui Yao, ravioli and tortellini in Italy, maultashen in Germany, vareniki in Israel, manti in the Caucasus, khinkali in Georgia, Uzbek chuchvara and Russian pelmeni. Historians suggest that Russian pelmeni were borrowed from the Northern Russian population in the middle of the II millennium BC from the ancestors of the Komi-Permyaks. The Russian word "pelmeni" was borrowed from the Komi language and means "the bread ear", "pel" is the ear, and "NAN" is a bread. As a traditional dish, pelmeni in Siberia included elk meat, a bear, a goose or a forest bird. In addition to meat, Siberian pelmeni, were often filled with blueberries, cowberries, cloudberries. Pelmeni are cooked in salted beef or chicken broth, and served with sour cream.
