Why do the majority of Australians live on the coast?
Australians prefer to live in the coastal areas for several reasons. Firstly, the climate there is more temperate, and better suited to the lifestyle that many people wish to have, e.g. there are lots of beaches, rivers, there are hot days but cooler nights (compared to the extreme temperatures inland). Secondly, the landscape along the coast is more varied, and many people are naturally attracted to beaches and rainforests, rather than the rugged beauty of the outback.
The third reason is ecomonic — it makes more sense to have larger populations along the coast. This is where the harbours and ports are, so it is ideal for trade and imports/exports.
